Today’s blog post is inspired by the Daily Prompt from August 21st about starting a new semester of classes. I felt that posting this today was more appropriate than last week because today marks the beginning of the end of my college career; I am officially starting the last year of my Masters of Social Work program at the University of Kansas and I couldn’t be more proud of myself.
It took me quite a long time to get where I am today, a lot of hard work, dedication, sweat and tears but I’ve finally made it. Of course, I can’t say that I’ve OFFICIALLY made it until May 2014 when I’m able to apply for graduation and receive my hood but it is nice to know that time is not far off.
These last two semesters (Fall: Aug-Dec and Spring: Jan-May) are the epitome of the social work degree and will provide me with the clinical knowledge that I have been looking forward to learning since I started the program. I will be “working” at the VA hospital as a social worker trainee for the next two semesters for 24 hours a week which will provide me with the 700 hours I need for my clinical practicum as well as attending class (16 credits) every other Tuesday from 8am – 6pm.
I’ve had a chance to look at my syllabus for my courses ahead of time and I am excited about what lies ahead of me: biopsychosocials, clinical diagnosis and more! I know that these last two semesters will be more demanding than previous years but I expected it and prepared myself ahead of time for what was to come.
All that lies between me and my Masters degree, hood and license exam is completing these next two semesters. I can’t wait until I can officially call myself a Social Worker and a licensed one at that!
Are you in school? If so, what classes are you taking this semester?
