Preschool is Cool! Counting with Elmo Review

When I lived back home in South Carolina, I was around my cousins Zoey who is two and Zachary who is five, almost every day. I got to see them develop into little people with their own personalities from the day they were born. Zachary is now in kindergarten and Miss Zoey spends her days at home learning her numbers, colors and alphabet and while I am not a mother myself (YET!), I do know how extremely important it is to spend time with your children and read to them, sing to them, count with them and simply, spend time with them. As a psychology major and now an employee at a social services agency, I have learned and seen through my own eyes how children develop and how the lack of education and simple guidance in the areas of numbers & counting and words & reading can affect a young mind which is why I was excited to receive a copy of Preschool is Cool! Counting with Elmo.

Preschool is Cool: Counting with Elmo is one of the newest releases from Warner Home Video (WHV) and features 3 1/2 year old Elmo and his pals  learning how to count. The story takes place on Sesame Street‘s Preschool is Cool set, where Professor Grover is a preschool teacher and Elmo is his helper for today’s counting lesson. When Professor Grover starts to have a little bit of trouble remembering what each number is, he needs Elmo and the class to give him a helping hand. Featuring counting themed songs stories like “Counting Booth” and “Abby’s Sparkle Speckle Freckles,” kids will have fun learning with Grover and Elmo and all their Sesame Street friends. Counting with Elmo supports early math skills such as recognition, counting and enumeration – all which help lay the foundation for math readiness and future math learning. Kids will see their favorite Sesame Street friends practice skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s which helps children understand that a purpose of counting is to determine the total number of things in an overall set.

I can remember when I was Zachary and Zoey’s age watching Sesame Street on TV all the time. Children are drawn to fuzzy animals and colorful sets that feature singing and dancing so it only makes sense to create an educational movie showcasing their favorite characters! The Counting with Elmo DVD is going to be given to Zoey as a Christmas present and I know it will be put to good use by my family as there is always some kind of educational show on the TV. If you have a young one at home who is learning how to count, then check out the Preschool is Cool: Counting with Elmo DVD which is available at retail stores nationwide for a suggested retail price of $14.98! Even if your child hasn’t started counting yet and is just learning his or her numbers, this DVD will come in handy!

My Lip Stuff Review & Giveaway – CLOSED

I have suffered from dry, cracked lips for a long time now. I can’t remember when it quite started, I just know this isn’t something that I’ve always had to deal with. It gets especially worse in the winter when we have to turn our heat on but then again, everything gets worse in the winter! I have tried numerous chap sticks and lip balms in hopes that I would find something that would keep my lips moisturized, but the one thing that I have found is that all the chap sticks I’ve tried make my lips sticky after using it and I have to reapply it a lot throughout the day. Until recently, I hadn’t found a lip balm that lives up to my needy standards and then I got the chance to try out lip balm made by My Lip Stuff – my lips are forever changed!

My Lip Stuff was founded by Brea in 1999 and originally started as a hobby after watching an episode of Martha Stewart that featured hand made lotions and toiletries. She began her mission to create natural lip balms that would end the suffering of people with chapped lips while putting an end to animal testing and saving the environment in the process. She began researching the use of natural butters and oils to find the perfect ingredients for the perfect lip balm and after many recipes, she finally came up with the recipe that is used in her line of lip balms. My Lip Stuff is committed to offering 100% natural products that are skin loving and are NEVER tested on animals. Their products do not contain any harsh ingredients and never contain petroleum or mineral oil. My Lip Stuff offers a HUGE variety of flavors – over 500 – so there is always going to be something that suits your needs, mood or craving. They even offer different themed lip balms for holidays, parties, days of the week, moods, beer flavors and more. My Lip Stuff strives to create a natural product made from only the highest quality ingredients with the least amount of impact on the environment and its inhabitants, for the lowest possible price.

When my package of My Lip Stuff arrived on my front door, I couldn’t wait to get inside and try out my new lip balms. I received lip balms in Peach, Pancakes & Syrup and Truffles. The lip balms are very buttery versus waxy like most lip balms and go on as smooth as butter. A little goes along way so I don’t feel the need to constantly reapply or even do more than one stroke across the bottom and upper lip when first applying. They also taste great; not that I sit there and eat them or anything but it’s kind of hard not to give it a little taste especially when you have something that smells like Pancakes near your mouth! The scents are wonderful and very true to their names and/or descriptions. My favorite of the three is Peach and I have used it every day since I received it. My lips never get sticky and have healed quite nicely since I started My Lip Stuff…I don’t think I’ll ever go back to another brand of lip balm and I plan on ordering more flavors soon – there’s just SO MANY to choose from. The lip balms come in a tube (which I received) or a pot and sell for $2.50 and $3.50, respectively. You can even purchase a themed 6 pack of lip balms for $13! But that’s not all, My Lip Stuff also carries healing butter stick, body butters, bath salts, salt scrubs, linen sprays, potpourri, shaving cream, perfume, lip gloss and tinted lip gloss, all made with the same concept of all natural and environmentally friendly in mind! My Lip Stuff products would be great for themed parties, bachelorette parties or even as wedding favors or simply to carry in your purse.

I love soda, especially SodaStream soda!

One of my bad habits is the amount of soda I consume everyday, every week, every month, every year. It is ridiculous because soda is extremely unhealthy for you. It contains an unnecessary amount of calories and sugars, and not to mention caffeine. It also produces unneeded waste because of the aluminum cans/plastic bottles they are packaged in. I have tried to cut back on my soda consumption and have only been successful for about a week at the most before I start getting a headache because of caffeine withdraws or not having the sugar I am use too. So when I started to look for an alternate way to get my soda fix that was more healthy and less damaging to the environment, I was excited when I stumbled upon SodaStream and got the chance to try one out!

SodaStream is a unique product as it takes simple tap water and allows you to create tasty carbonated soda and sparkling water in minutes. Not only does it provide a healthy alternative to the leading soda brands on the market, but you don’t have to worry about carrying heavy bottles/cans or where to store them at home or what to do with the bottles/cans when they are empty. Instead, you can reuse the bottles that come with the SodaStream package to make a variety of sodas and sparkling waters. Some of the benefits of the SodaStream system are:

SodaStream offers a WIDE variety of sodamix so you’re bound to find a flavor that everyone will love. They offer traditional favorites such as Cola, Lemon-Lime, Orange and Root Beer, Ginger Ale and Tonic. They also have a great selection of fruit creations including Orange Mango, Diet Pink Grapefruit or Cranberry-Raspberry. And if you’re someone who drinks a lot of diet sodas, they have plenty to choose from in the diet variety as well. But it doesn’t just stop at soda…the SodaStream allows you to make sparkling water AND energy drinks as well. SodaStream allows you to create flavorful sparkling water in the flavors Lemon-Lime, Orange, Berry and Mint and they also have a mix that can be used to create energy drinks that are comparable in taste to Red Bull. How cool is that?

Look how healthy SodaStream sodamixes are when compared to regular store bought sodas

All SodaStream regular sodamix uses a mixture of Splenda® and sugar. Diet flavors are sugar-free,  sweetened with Splenda® brand sweetener. Comparison is based on 8 fl. oz. serving size (0.34 fl. oz. of SodaStream sodamix per 8 fl. oz. of water).

I was lucky enough to get my own SodaStream Fountain Jet along with a variety of sodamixes to try out in my home and all I can say is that I’ve had SO MUCH fun making soda! It amazes me every time we make a new bottle of soda, how much it really does taste like the “real” thing found in stores and to know that it is so much healthier makes it that much more enjoyable. So far, we have made bottles of Cola, Orange Mango and Root Beer. My favorite out of those 3 has been the Orange Mango. I am not a fan of Root Beer but I know how Root Beer tastes and I can definitely say that the Root Beer sodamix is authentic to taste! The SodaStream is extremely easy to use: simply fill the provided carbonation bottle with tap water (we use cold tap water from our Pur system), screw the bottle onto the SodaStream Fountain Jet, push the carbonation button 3+ times (depends on how much carbnation you want), remove the bottle and title a little and pour in the syrup! You can see how easy it is by viewing my Youtube video at the end of this post. We have so many flavors that we won’t have to buy store bought soda for a long time. What I really love about SodaStream, aside from the obvious making of soda, is that it is very user friendly and is an eco-friendly way to enjoy your favorite drinks all the while saving the environment. There is no need to worry about plastic bottles or cans as the bottles the soda/water is stored in are completely reusable up to a certain date which is printed right on the bottle. The carbonation bottle is even reusable: SodaStream has setup a program where you can send in your empty carbonation bottle so they can refill it and send you a new one!

If you’re a soda lover like me, I would highly recommend the SodaStream Fountain Jet. You can purchase the Fountain Jet at the SodaStream website or find a local retailer near you that carries the SodaStream line.

Fight Seasonal Allergies with Chloraseptic

For as long as I can remember I have suffered from seasonal allergies. When I moved back to South Carolina at the age 16, my allergies went into full force and I came down with sinus infections almost every month. Since being back in Kansas for the past three years, they haven’t been AS bad until this year when the ragweed season started along with dealing with a shedding dog due to dry, itchy skin. Needless to say, I have been dealing with a sore, itchy eyes, an itchy throat with a cough that won’t go away as well as sneezing and a runny nose. I have found medications that have helped me deal with most of it except the itchy throat that causes me to cough so much that I almost throw up so when I got an offer to try out Chloraseptic‘s new line of sore throat lozenges and spray, I gladly accepted.

Chloraseptic is the #1 pharmacist-recommended brand for sore throats and recently launched a family-friendly improved line of sore throat lozenges and sprays. Now, when sore throat sufferers take a lozenge to stop that itchy feeling a soothing surprise occurs every time. Chloraseptic Lozenges now have a soothing liquid center. With flavors like Cherry, Citrus, Honey Lemon and Green Tea (made with real honey), your family can choose their favorite flavor and enjoy them too. Chloraseptic Sore Throat Lozenges are the only medicated sore throat remedy on the market that have a soothing dual-sensory solid shell with liquid medicine in the center. The burst of liquid inside each and every lozenge soothes your throat, adding a double punch of relief to the lozenge that is already targeting your sore throat and irritated nasal passages.

What I really like about the Chloraseptic Sore Throat Lozenges is the soothing liquid center. I’m not a fan of hard candy and while these aren’t candy they remind me of it, and when I get to the middle of these lozenges it is a sweet surprise. The lozenges themselves taste great which is something I find very important because all too often the cough drops I use taste gross. They also have worked wonders on my cough and have helped to soothe my throat to the point that I don’t have that weird itch that causes me to cough in the first place.

The Chloraseptic Lozenge Line is available in 15 and 18 count packs with a suggested retail price of $3.99. The family of sore throat relief products also includes Chloraseptic Relief Strips for kids, which are fast-acting, great tasting grape oral strips that relieve sore throat pain on contact.  Flavors of Chloraseptic Sore Throat Lozenges also include Wild Cherry, available in sugar free and regular, which also suppress cough for up to four hours, and maximum strength Wild Berries, the strongest non-prescription flavor available.

Another great product that I received was the Chloraseptic Sore Throat Spray. The sprays soothe the throat the same way the lozenges do except it is in a liquid form. Chloraseptic recently redesigned the spray bottle to better fit into your medicine cabinet and make it easier to use one-handedly. I haven’t had much of a reason to break out the spray just yet but I know with the winter season approaching fast that the time will come soon.

The sprays come in great flavors such as Cherry, Menthol and Soothing Citrus in 6.0 oz bottle.  The line also includes a grape-flavored kids strength formula as well as a smaller Maximum Strength spray that comes in a 1.0 oz portable bottle all at a suggested retail price of $6.25. A pocket pump version of the #1 Chloraseptic Cherry Spray is also available in a 0.67 oz package that is easy to carry anywhere for sore throat relief at a suggested retail price of $2.75.

Whether you’re an allergy sufferer dealing with the symptoms that come from seasonal allergies or battling a cold, Chloraseptic is there to provide you with relief. Visit their website for more information on Chloraseptic Sore Throat Lozenges and Sore Throat Spray and the full line of sore throat relief products!

The Bath House Co.

I am a sucker for homemade goods especially those of the bath and body variety, so when I found The Bath House Co. I was eager to try out their products. The Bath House Co. is an Etsy shop that features homemade bathing goods, lotion and perfume in delectable scents. I got the chance to try out a few samples of sugar creme polish in Laudanum and Madison as well as a body creme sample in Pixie. All I have to say is…wow.

The sugar cream polish has worked wonders on the dry skin I have on my heels. It is easy to use: gather a bit on your fingers and rub sugar creme polish on damp skin to exfoliate & moisturize dry dull skin. Rinse to reveal delectably scented smooth skin. The Laudanum scent smells of decadent rich lemon pound cake and smells so much like lemon pound cake that it literally makes me want to eat it every time I open it up. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE the smell of the Laudanum. The Madison scent smells of warm sugar cookies, cherry blossoms, and sweet vanilla and is absolutely wonderful as well. I also got to try a sample of the body creme in Pixie. The body creme is light and fluffy and absorbs well into the skin, it doesn’t leave your skin feeling oily but makes it soft and smooth. I didn’t care much for the Pixie scent which is sweet pea blossoms, summer violets & sun ripened fruits but I would love to get the body creme in the Laudanum.

The Bath House Co. sells sample sizes of all of their products, so I would highly suggest going through their catalog and picking out the scents that stand out to you. They sell sugar creme polishes in 8oz jars and body creme in 4oz bottles at a reasonable price of $10 and $6, respectively and also have limited edition holiday scents & custom orders. And with a little going along way, it will sure last you a long time! I will definitely be back to buy a full jar of sugar creme polish & body creme in Laudanum.
