I have decided, once and for all, that my “Get fit & healthy, active lifestyle” starts now. I have finally reached the point where I can no longer hide behind the weight that makes me feel miserable day in and day out, it is time to get up and do something about it. The process won’t be easy and I am sure I’ll struggle at times, but the end results will be well worth it especially when I reach goals that I set for myself. This has been a long time coming and with the company I have worked for losing their contract starting at the beginning of July (I will be out of the job), I have no more excuses because I’ll have the time to focus on myself and my health without any distractions for awhile.
I know my body is capable of losing weight – I lost about 15 pounds when I was following Weight Watchers from February to April 2012 – and I know it is capable of being much more than a couch potato. I started walking with my mom this past Sunday (1 mile), and we went again this evening and it felt amazing. Our plan, whether she knows it or not, is to start with every other day and then work up to more frequent walks with longer amounts of time to get accustomed to moving and using our bodies. I would love to “learn” how to be a runner (they always seem to peaceful when they are out jogging around town) and would love to purchase a bike. I plan to utilize Weight Watchers because it worked for me before, I just didn’t stick with it long enough. My biggest downfall will be cutting out the pop; for the last few months, I have been starting my day with a large coke from McDonald’s…how awful is that?! and drinking more water instead. I know I can do it, I want to do it, and I believe I can do.
My motivation, aside from losing the weight, being more healthy & looking better, is I will be getting MARRIED sometime next year and I’d love to look amazing! We also plan to start a family within the next year or two and I don’t want to be an overweight mom, let alone the issues I MIGHT encounter when we start trying to conceive; we haven’t even crossed that bridge yet. I will chronicle my progress, my up’s & down’s, on this blog and will post more in-depth blogs as I progress. Hopefully, I will get a chance this weekend to post an initial my weight & photos type blog. I hope you all will support me in any way that you can because I know I will need it!

A few months ago, I had the chance to review an amazing product from Scott’s Liquid Gold and I am now back to review another – Clean Screen! I can’t tell you how difficult it is to keep an LCD monitor free of dust and lint. I feel like I am constantly wiping down my screen because I always find little pieces of lint stuck to it or big spots of dust that just don’t seem to go away & they irritate me when I am working. I’ve tried numerous products – a damp cloth, lint clothes specifically for wiping down LCD monitors/TVs, duster pads – and nothing seemed to work until I tried out Scott’s Liquid Gold Clean Screen. On May 2nd, 2013, Alan asked me to marry him with a gorgeous diamond ring set with amethyst side stones (my birthstone). The proposal was done in the comfort of our own home in the kitchen – nothing spectacular or over the top, just simple and sweet. I had been on “vacation” from work for about a week and some days recovering from Septoplasty surgery when he asked and I actually threw up about 10 minutes afterwards due to a combination of recovering from surgery and still feeling nausea at times to the excitement & overwhelming feeling I had from getting engaged! We had been talking about getting engaged and getting married for quite sometime now; after all, we’ll have been dating for six years on June 29th, 2013 and it was about time we moved on to the next chapter of our lives.
Getting married is something I always wanted in my life, and it is something that I have thought about often especially over the last couple of years. It didn’t become real super important until this past year when I began to take a harder look at my life and where I was headed. Since graduating high school in 2004, I’ve focused solely on my education, finishing my undergraduate degree in 2010 and now my Masters in 2014. I have made it a point to put my education first and everything else second, but marriage has always been a top priority and I would have welcomed it a lot sooner should it have occurred that way. The closer I get to finishing my Masters, the more I realize how close I am to starting the next chapter of life – marriage and family. It only seems logical for the next step for me & Alan to start life as a unit of one, rather than everything being divided as it is now. It also only seems logical, after completing my education & securing a decent job afterwards, that one would seek to get married and start a family of their own. I definitely look forward to getting married and seeing what the future holds for us!
We haven’t really started planning the wedding as of yet, although we have discussed having the wedding in my hometown of Charleston, SC in the late summer/early fall time of 2014. We are taking a trip to SC in July and hope to look at venue options while we are there, which will allow us to secure a date. I setup an appointment to get engagement pictures taken on June 25th, which should be interesting because after six years of dating we don’t have one single professional photo of us at all; all of our pictures together have been taken with a camera phone! As we move along with the wedding planning, I will be blogging about the process, the ups and downs and all the fun that is to be had. I am sure the ride will be fun and entertaining!!
As a member of Influenster, I get the opportunity to receive VoxBoxes throughout the year and recently was picked to receive the Spring Fever VoxBox. I was excited to receive this box because I hadn’t received a VoxBox in quite sometime, and more importantly hadn’t received a box since Influenster redesigned and launched their new website. I dived head first into completing the tasks for the Spring VoxBox, one of which is to post a video of the unboxing of the VoxBox itself.

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Aruba Tourism Authority. All opinions are 100% mine.
One of my goals in life is to travel to as many new countries & places I possibly can before I am unable too. So, when I started to read about the Island of Aruba, dubbed “One Happy Island,” and all it had to offer travelers, I knew I had to add it to my list of places to visit. I will admit that I am not much of a beach girl, but when I read about the turquoise Caribbean waters and the cool trade winds blowing, I started to imagine what a peaceful and relaxing place Aruba must be.
I would love to check out the windsurfers and kite surfers that the trade wind beaches attract or even rent a jet-ski and cruise around on the water which is something I’ve never done! To go snorkeling in the shallow coral formations sounds grand too as it’d allow me to explore the underwater fantasy that the beach has to offer.
Aruba has over seven-miles of beach along the west cost, which are lined with resorts that are constantly packed with beach goers ready to relax and lounge. They offer a quiet and peaceful place to sun bath or get lost in a good book. And if you’re up for some fun, you can head over to the beaches along the windward coast that are littered with coves made out of limestone and inlets formed by the pounding of waves. While swimming isn’t recommended in this area, it is still a great place to relax with much needed privacy and tranquility.
These beaches sound absolutely amazing and is something I could definitely use after the first part of the year I’ve had; between work and graduate school, I think I deserve a great vacation! Maybe I can convince my fiance to check into Aruba as a honeymoon destination for us? Aruba travel plans may be in our near future for sure…oh, the fun that we’d have!
